The Sunsational was formulated keeping the environment and the ocean in mind, this is why we abide by the Hawaii sunscreen safe regulation - this ban is created to safeguard the ocean and protect Hawaii's marine ecosystem. It bans sunscreens containing oxybenzone and octinoxate due to their harmful effects on coral reefs. For this reason, we decided to create a sunstick that can both protect us from harmful UV rays and protect coral reefs from damage at the same time. We decided to only use Non-Nano Zinc Oxide. Zinc is one of the most common naturally found elements and is also involved in many biological pathways in both humans and animals. Furthermore, we used Zinc Oxide in its non-nano form, which means that the risk of inhalation (this a health concern related to Zinc Oxide and nanoparticles) and filtration/absorption in the environment is reduced. The Sunsational is also tested to be water resistant!

Many sunscreens contain nano zinc oxide, which has a very small particle size and therefore has the potential to accumulate in water bodies. Studies suggest that nano-zinc oxide can negatively impact fish and marine life, and research is still underway to determine how it will affect the marine environment in the long term. We want to have as little impact on the environment as possible, which is why we chose zinc oxide without nanoparticles. So both your skin and the sea are protected!
